A curious funny case of a perfect (yet crazed) love

"Whenever I'm Alone with You" is such a crazed and intensely interesting combination of elements, genres and cinematic language that it's almost impossible to describe it with care and accuracy, or at least in a way that can make audiences to see it. There's plenty of comedy and romance, some drama and even some bits of real life happening as the non-story goes on. There isn't much of a story, it's mostly a series of vignettes that has a small base to support it all. But in the end, it's a quite funny, charming picture. We follow the unusual yet amusing love story of Guillaume and Vedrana (played by directors/writers Guillaume Campanacci and Vesper Egon, respectively). They're both coming from failed relationships: he attempted suicide after being dumped by his girlfriend and he's slowly trying to accept life without her, though he's acting in an erratic manner whenever he deals with family and friends; she's not satisfied with her partner for some reason, it's simply not working. They both meet at a wedding of a relative of Guillaume, she's a family friend of whom he never knew, and after a series of odd but reflective conversations the chemistry is all there for everyone to see and they get easily involved, and it's like a perfect couple to share fun moments, do stupid things together and enjoy life to the fullest until...a) a bizarre friend of his that stalks him saying she's in love with him and b) the girlfriend reappears in his life saying she's pregnant. That was an overview on the film. Seeing it is another thing as there's a mix of many different elements that even includes some bloopers within the story, there's plenty of homages to Jean-Luc Godard films (the title fonts); and the real life bits come from the fact Guillaume Campanacci used many of his own family and friends to play themselves within the settings he created, so it's one of those one wonders if he used some life experiences to compose the film. But there are several wildly funny moments (when Vedrana is obsessed in having a TV and Guillaume gets one after a long swimming in the ocean; the crazed stalker demanding that he must love her back), and the romantic bits were all dreamy with a sense of an endless love, they're so in tune together. Life isn't like that, but when you watch the film you don't even care, you go along with the imagination flying high, wishing life could be like this, that two confused and conflicted souls could find solace and happiness just by being together. 8/10.
