A must see

I wasn't emotionally prepared for the gut punch that this movie was. I went in with little knowledge of Jerry Kane or sovereign citizens and came out, devastated and touched with a thirst to know more about this topic.Besides the beautiful, sensitively written plot, the acting was perfectly understated at times and astoundingly intense at others. Tremblay and Offerman really shine here, as others have said. What really stood out to me were all the nuances in the supporting roles; the lack of pretension or verbosity in the script, and the thoughtful framing of ever shot. This movie really is the whole package.'Sovereign' left me with so much to think about and is so important now more than ever before.

Intense

Great acting by all involved. Based on a true story.Nick Offerman is incredibly powerful in the role. You can't really look away from him when he's on the screenThe rest of the actors are also excellent. The director had a really clear grasp of the material. Everybody who saw the screening with me, walked out in complete silence.I wasn't familiar with the actual story this is based on, but maybe that was actually better because I didn't quite know exactly how it was going to end.So I would say don't read up on it before watching the movie This is in comedy, but a real hard look at some of the realities going on in this country.

Perfect Movie on Understanding the U.S.

Deeply sensitive and empathetic movie that addresses current issues, framed in a story between two different fathers and sons, one without a regular job who is fighting the system, and one whose father and son represent the system (as police officers). Both portrayals show that neither father is perfect; both believe they are in the right, but sometimes are in the wrong. Both firmly state that their way is the only way, but realize their own flaws leading to introspective and quiet moments of self-doubt (that they lack the confidence to show their sons). Beautifully wrapped storyline that can only lead one to think. Finally, as we approach the 4th of July, this highly sensitive movie walks the line on how many segments of our country are left behind, and the impact that has on everyone else (especially those in law enforcement).Congratulations to writer/director Christian Swegal.
