It's likely about Japan and her role

Yes, 'Lion King' did copy from it (and from Hamlet and from Bambi and...), but Jangari taitei also copied Disney and other US cartoons. The plot differs!Jangari taitei is a blatant glorification of Japanese subjugation and exploitation of East Asia in the 1900's, masked as Africa, and "against the White colonialists". Today the Japanese Cuture Institute only shows it with a longer apology in advance.Pure white young Reo/Leo/Kimba then turns to methods different from his father's robberies and can counter the trinity of Sowjets, US Americans and British. All this is on a metaphorical yet obvious level, but feel free to interpret it your way.Recommendation: Rain, lightning, waves are depicted in an extraordinary way for 1966.

A real childhood favorite of mine!

I was seven when I saw "Kimba the White Lion" back in 1966, and was immediately hooked onto the show. I'd tune into WPIX, which my family and I got through cable, and it was a real favorite of mine.

And I think I can see why.

Sometime ago, when I was in my 50s or so, I saw a DVD of one episode that had the voices redone. Evidently, this was done in Canada, as you could occasionally hear a Canadian accent. But what amazed me was how GREAT the story line was!!! This has held up much better than so many of the American cartoons produced in the Sixties. The original theme was also interesting to listen to as well.

I should try to locate more of these episodes to see if any of them jog this 65-year-old's memory!!!
