"Watch it a second time!" didn't help...

This is one of my wife's favorite holiday films...but I can't stand it. The acting is below subpar, the editing makes no sense, and the sound engineer should have been fired. Nearly every scene with music is so drowned out you can't understand the dialogue...although that may be a bit of a blessing because what dialogue you can hear sucks. The story concept wasn't bad, but the execution feels more like a high school film class project than anything someone would actually spend money on."A" for effort, "D" for execution, and "F-" for actually letting this thing get released...

7.5, really

I've learned, at least as far as Christmas movies go, to never pay attention to the overall reviews if it is something that sounds interesting to you.I went in not expecting a lot from something that rated a 5.4 overall. I was pleasantly surprised. It is a very unlikely plot with with an equally, if not more, unlikely ending. It is a Christmas movie that embraces the disenchantment of the season as well as the magic, the sadness as well as the gladness. It overall has a good ending. It made me smile as well as shed a tear. Any film that can move me in some positive way deserves my positive review. It is in no way a classic, but I would watch it again and would recommend others try it if the plot sounds like something they would enjoy.Seems like a lot of the bad ratings for holiday movies come from die-hard realists who rate based on how believable the story is. You really can't do that with a Christmas movie...you end up with 95% looking like they're not worth watching.

Messy

Except for the Freaky Friday premise, most of this story is original. It is messy though, and so many things don't make sense even beyond the wish that results in the switch. The chaos builds until explodes at the end. There is even a real surprise or two.I wish at least some of the characters had been likable. Dani vacillates between capable party planner and rudderless wimp. Only Rachel and Jerimiah seem to have a good heart underneath. As the Christmas Reviewer said, you just have to go with it and enjoy.
