A dark fairy tale lost in its own ambition

Fortuna, directed by Nicolangelo Gelormini, attempts to craft a haunting narrative about innocence, trauma, and unspeakable secrets but ultimately collapses under the weight of its own pretensions. Inspired by a true story, the film follows a young girl, Fortuna, navigating a bleak suburban life overshadowed by a harrowing mystery. While Valeria Golino delivers a commendable performance as a psychologist attempting to unravel the story, the film's narrative feels disjointed and overly stylized. Gelormini's visual choices, though striking at times, come across as self-indulgent, prioritizing aesthetics over emotional resonance. The result is a story that fails to connect on a deeper level, leaving its most important themes underexplored.Fortuna tries to blend the realism of a tragic crime story with the surrealism of a dark fairy tale, but the balance feels off. Instead of amplifying the emotional impact, the artistic flourishes distance the audience from the heart of the narrative. The film's ambition is evident, but its execution falls flat, making it more of an art piece than a gripping drama.Rating: 5/10 - A visually ambitious but emotionally hollow debut.

Not much of a swing but totally a miss

The fact that they made this after a real life event (or 2) is what torpedoed the movie into nothing. And the very simple reason for that is, there is no story; there is no real life anything to work with.

And this is what this movie is. Absolute conjecture of absolutely nothing. It's just bad.. it doesn't depict anything and credits roll and all of a sudden it scrolls a literal news summary? Why?

If you want to make a movie talking about such an event, fabricate it. Make up imaginary story instead of trying to pretend it is a documentary of nothing. Again, there is no real life story to go with this, look it up. It did happen but there is nothing else to it. They have 0 source material to work with!

It is literally like they did that as an afterthought to just cover up their abysmal concept and script. There is no other way to explain it.

Just skip this honestly. The whole movie is the worst attempt of grade school metaphor ive seen in decades.

Go watch bastard out of carolina for something similar but done right.
