Plot summary

Keith, Anna and their son Peter are a close, loving family living in a smart suburban street of a provincial city. Anna is a typical middle-class housewife, filling her day with good works, until one day, when she finds a note that leads to a shattering discovery - her husband has been having an affair. Anna's intense shock at finding out Keith's secret is compounded when she arranges to meet his lover. When Steve arrives at the meeting place, Anna is forced to accept the fact that Keith has been leading a double life for the length of their marriage. Steve stresses the risk of AIDS and urges Anna to have an AIDS test. To show her what it can be like to live with the disease, he introduces her to Jim, who needs 24-hour care and has developed a realistic attitude towards his own death. When Keith leaves home suddenly, Anna is forced to tell her son about the threat of HIV, but Peter turns violently against her and runs away.

nuances of fragile world

a special film. because it is a pledge. for understand the other. for discover difference as gift. for define yourself. for measure of love and compassion.or, only, for a hidden form of beauty and peace. it is, in same time, a delicate and deep trip in heart of strange events. so, in little measure, a poem. about nuances of a fragile world. sensitive, delicate, it may be first step in a dark circle. or, only, a parable about faces of pain. and drawing for different reality side. so, it has not precise definition. it is out of clear verdict.it remains, after its end, only picture of life fragments. and about solitude as border of self acceptance. grace of subtle performance of entire cast, the work for her realistic role, as smoke ladder is remarkable in case of Jane Asher.

Strong and powerful film

I remember seeing Closing Numbers soon after it was made but, although I may be wrong, the film never made it to general release and was for TV only.

The film itself is very powerful and highlights in a compassionate manner the struggles that thousands of couples must go through namely that one of the couple is actually Bisexual. This emotive subject is dealt with in a very sensitive manner and the story itself is extremely believable. All of the cast put up excellent performances.

If you are prepared to forgo your prejudices about AIDS, Homesexuality or Bisexuality then I would strongly recommend this film.
