Plot summary

It's just before Christmas, and Stine (9) arrives in Cobbler street all by herself. There she seeks shelter at Shoemaker Andersen's place, a grumpy old man who just wants to be left alone. Their meeting changes everything for the both of them.

Classic approach and no frills

Norwegians have a wonderful tradition of creating delightful Christmas films, and this one is no exception, beautifully crafted by Maren Skolem and expertly directed by Mikal Hovland. With a classic approach and no frills, this film stands out as one of the few this year that truly captures the essence of the holiday season! The story follows 10-year-old Stine, who, just days before Christmas, finds herself in a quaint town after sneaking onto a train. Seeking refuge from the chilly night, she slips into the home of the reclusive shoemaker Jens Petrus Andersen on Cobbler Street. Initially resistant to the presence of the quirky and outspoken girl, the grumpy old man soon discovers that their unexpected meeting will change both of their lives in surprising ways.Alongside Kåre Conradi, who plays the beloved shoemaker Andersen, the cast includes Kaya Ekerholt McCurley as Stine, Lene Kongsvik Johansen as Tilla Hjul, Lisa Tønne as Mrs. Franzen, and Martin Lepperød as the postman.Just sit back and enjoy it! Best Norwegian Christmas Movie

The first Christmas is to be celebrated in post war Norway, December 1945. A cobbler, riddled by anxiety after having been estranged from his daughter has decided to isolate himself in his cobbler shop home, but then a runaway girl from an all girl boarding school seeks refuge in his house. Almost like the musical Annie, the female protagonist is waiting for a father to pick her up. She decides to runaway from the school to find a family to celebrate Christmas with. Many figures of authority try to bring her back. Will she manage to find a new family? A heartwarming story of friendship, new opportunities and a true Christmas Spirit.
