A rare Shanghai dialect movie

It's been a long time since I saw a movie with all the lines in Shanghainese. The film is full of Shanghai's unique style and human touch, but also cleverly embedded in the director's own wisdom and humor. I felt very comfortable listening to the Shanghai dialect in the movie, watching the streets of the plane trees and enjoying the whole story. All were so appropriate. I think this shows that films need to be diversified. China's films should not be full of northern-style narratives and language styles. Too much will make us tired. At present, it seems that Beijing is too dominant in popular culture, and there are too many styles of north, including the northeast in China's movie and TV series. The good news is that there is a chance to counter the northern power, in addition to Shanghai, the southern style film production is Guangdong. For example, I Am What I Am (aka Xiongshi Shaonian). The images and scenes presented in the story are full of Lingnan style (the area near Foshan, Guangdong Province, the hometown of Yip Man). Unique, fresh and full of tradition .

good attempt, good reslult

An attempt by a young director to describe the love and life of a group of middle-class people in Shanghai, China. The rhythm of the story is slow and delicate, no lack of humor and wisdom, maybe it has something to do with my current mood, I enjoyed it very much.

Started off hit and miss, ended up quite powerful

I really loved this film for its refreshing perspective of modern Shanghai; cosmopolitan and not steeping in nationalism however unmistakably Chinese in its character. The characters themselves are varied and charming and there are a few stories at play here.It was actually the side character of Lao Wu who made the film for me and while I would have liked to see his story explored more, I think it was prevalent that it wasn't and supported the overall theme of the main characters story.Definately worth watching for people who are interested in China stuff, and still worth watching if you like a good romcom!
