Plot summary

At the Natural History Museum in Vienna, everything that is found on earth and in outer space and that humans can get their hands on, is collected, archived, and studied in the name of evolutionary research. Archiv der Zukunft captures the aesthetic appeal of the natural-history collection and its working process, illuminating the mammoth project of knowledge preservation and production hidden behind the building’s imperial façade.

Exellent idea solved poorly

A promising documentary about the rich archive at Vienna's Natural History Museum, including comments done by several people working with conservation, taxidermy etc, everything wrapped in wonderful images of stuffed animals.However, this turned out to be an excellent idea for a documentary solved poorly. It is as if very little editing has been done through lengthy talks about conservation. Not to mention how everything that is presented should have been linked together. Experts and others sound more tediously boring than they possibly are. Their knowledge and their passion for science keep drowning in weak editing throughout the movie. The outcome doesn't exactly work as an invitation to discover all the fascinating work done in a museum.Archive of the future will perhaps give you some insight, but do not expect to be amazed and enlightened.
